I just found this photo of me as a camp counselor for a wildlife and outdoors camp where they let me teach map & compass & orienteering and the thing is these kids were all from the city and they applied for this fully-funded program and it was the first time a lot of them had ever gone hiking and they were really nervous and I can’t help but think I probably didn’t inspire their confidence when I showed up

image

“hey kids I’ll be leading us all deep, deep into the woods today and probably we will all come back let’s roll”

this photo is of me teaching them how to count paces and obviously I cut all the kids out of the picture but in the original there are just a bunch of nervous looking youths following me

You look so sublime here, in the capital-r-Romantic sense of the word. Completely blissed out, having some sort of deeply spiritual out-of-body experience. Byron would kill to be you. Thoreau would kill to be you. The Pied Piper would also kill to be you, but for slightly more nefarious reasons related to the reluctant tweens trailing you like newborn ducklings

Byron tried. Thoreau was too much of a coward. The Pied Piper and I have an agreement.

a few years ago everything seemed hopeless, and then it wasn’t.

it isn’t this time, either.

i used to focus so much on finding another way to the same goal because that’s what’s supposed to mean success. if you can’t find one route, find another.

now i’m trying to learn to adjust my goals, instead, because sometimes there really isn’t another way.

not settle. not give up. but reimagine my target and how I can make it work from another base.

not to be naruto about it but the song wind really is the mood

Take your time, baby, your blood needs slowing down, breach your soul to reach yourself before you gloom, reflection of fear makes shadows of nothing, shadows of nothing.

You still are blind, if you see a winding road,
‘Cause there’s always a straight way to the point you see.

dsknvkls thank you since people ask all the time, it’s a Halloween Slorg from neopets! On neopets your pet could have a pet, called a Petpet, and a Slorg was one of them.

For obvious reason, I imprinted immediately and intensely on them. I don’t know why, but I just saw myself in Slorgs.

ANYWAY, you can paint your pets and petpets to turn into different versions of themselves, and Halloween Slorgs are Vampires!

And since I’m discussing it, my entire personality can actually be separated and portrayed by Five Slorgs:

Hey werewolf lovers! @gailcarriger will likely announce this formally herself on tumblr later on, but for those of you who prefer or require large print books, she’s just announced over on FB that “How To Marry A Werewolf” is now available in large print paperback, and can be ordered as such through your local libraries, which is excellent news for those of us with visual problems! (And for those of us who get headaches/sensory issues from e-readers! Huzzah!)

Also, even if you are not a person with visual problems, please consider requesting the large print version of this book at your library (and for any other books you’d like to see too!) both to support Gail as an author, and also those of us who need such books. Large print editions tend to only be printed by demand, and the lack of demand means a lot of books never get adapted. So the more demand there is, the more accessible fiction can be for everyone, and that is an awesome thing.

So yea, big thank you to @gailcarriger for going to the effort of making her book available in large print. I for one am looking forward to reading it again without having to squint at the screen!
